Who we are/What we do:
The seniors committee, St. Abraham and St. Sarah, started almost twenty years ago gathering together seniors over 50 years old, men and women, with younger volunteers, the Friends of the Seniors and getting involved in various activites.
Many activites took place every other month including Bible Study following the Friday Holy Liturgy with the late Fr. Roufail Michail, and then with Fr. Mina Essak and Fr. Maximus Habib. The group hosted bake sales twice or three times a year during the fast and Christmas craft workshop every November. The middle school in the last couple of years volunteered to help make crafts to give to the seniors.
A good Samaritan seniors group sprouted a few years later and was involved mainly in visiting seniors at home, hospitals, or nursing homes.
The seniors and friends visited many places like Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, St. John Armenian Church in Southfeild, St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Troy, St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Troy, Stony Creek Park in Rochester, Civic Center in Troy and many other places.
We would like to take the group to St. Mina Retreat Center in Mio, or Capuchin Center in Oxford.
We will check the Troy Civic Center for relevant programs. A visit to the Detroit Zoo is a possibility and a good all-family activity.
Future plans inculde:
We help in visitation, communication and transportation. We welcome new projects.
Whose help we are seeking:
We are seeking seniors to join the group. We are also seeking volunteers (i.e. friends of any age who are willing to take the blessing to sponsor a senior). Sponsoring ranges from a simple phone call to communicating, visiting, or helping in any need that my arise.
